Bose Omolayo, a powerlifting gold medallist at the last African Games has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to reward athletes that won medals at the Games.
The physically challenged said in Lagos that the reward would encourage them to perform creditably at future competitions.
Omolayo noted that athletes at the Games, held in Brazzaville, Congo won laurels for the country in various sports that they participated in.
“Although the Games has come and gone but it will be good for the government to host us and use the forum to reward us for a job well done.

“We have been waiting to be honoured because it is not easy to win medals at such Games and for being good ambassadors of the country,’’ she said.

The 137.5kg powerlifter added that their recognition would serve as motivation for those aspiring to represent the nation at the 2016 Olympic Games.

“Some of us are preparing to come home with gold medals at the Olympics next year, that is why I am calling on the president to ginger us,” the powerlifter said.

She, however, applauded the government for the prompt and adequate preparation given ahead the African Games in August.

“The early camping we had was good; we had seasoned technical officials, good feeding, medicals and adequate allowances were paid in good time too. All these contributed to our impressive performance.’’
