glo_logoGlo Soccer Academy boys continued their training at the Football Academy of Dubai city with focus on one-on-one situation and containment strategies. Their trainers said that this aspect of the training is expected to guide them as they progress further in their football careers.

Commenting on the boys’ response to training, Spanish international and ex-Real Madrid defender, Michael Solgado described the Glo Soccer Academy boys as “a bunch of talented young footballers.”

Solgado, a top executive of the Academy stated that with proper training and commitment, the players will go far in the game of football.

“Having seen them in the first and second friendly matches, I have no doubt that the boys will go places with the right tactical training,” he added.

As part of their training programme, the four boys who are all Ghanaians, have played some friendly matches. In one of the matches played on Tuesday, the boys, playing with the Football Academy of Dubai city team, defeated their opponent, Adastra Football Club, a team rated as the second best youth team in Dubai City, by four goals to three. The four goals by the Glo/Dubai Academy boys were scored by David Abagna, a striker from Ghana who also scored a brace in the previous match against Baniyas Real Madrid.

The Glo/Dubai Academy team took the lead in the first minute through David Abagna while Adastra equalized ten minutes into the match and scored the second goal in the 29th minute. The first half eventually ended 3-2 in favour Adastra before a second half brace from Abagna turned the momentum in favour of the Glo/Dubai Academy boys.

The Glo Dream Team is made up of sixteen players; (ten Nigerians, four Ghanaians and two Beninese) that emerged at the end of the academy in February, 2013.

The four players, Aminu Murtala (16), David Abagna (15), Daniel Abaa (16) and Bismarck Larbi (17) were denied British visa in April while their colleagues from Nigerian and Republic of Benin made the trip to Manchester United where they underwent trainings on fundamentals of modern football.
