The sleepy town of Akungba, in Ondo state , in South Western Nigeria came abuzz on Wednesday as telecoms service provider, Globacom, stormed the Adekunle Ajasin University, in the town to donate ICT solutions to the University and to five of its most outstanding Students.

The top notch performers who celebrated as they clinched Globacom’s rewards for excellence were Ajomale Olamide Christianah of the Department of Agric Economics; Patrick Oluwafemi Success, Department of Linguistics; Oshin Joshua Inioluwa, Linguistics and Yoruba Studies, Omotunde Samuel Segun of the Department of Science Education (Physics) and Oguntimehin Taiwo Samuel, Department of Animal and Environmental Biology.

The gifts from Globacom included routers , android phones, airtime and data. The Digital transformational leader popularly known as the Grandmasters of Data also gave some of the technology devices to the school authorities. Globacom is currently holding week-long data clinic within the school.

Globacom’s trip to Akungba was not a flash in the pan, rather, the firm had been on a technology road trip, visiting higher institutions, with Huawei Technologies, endowing the Institutions with cutting edge ICT materials. This according to the company is “… to contribute to the advancement of research and scholarship in tertiary institutions across Nigeria through the use of the technology.”

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Igbekele Amos Ajibefun was on hand to receive Globacom and he praised the company for its kind gesture which, according to him, would encourage research and motivate the students to be more committed to their academic pursuits.

Some of the institutions that have benefited from the network’s empowerment programme are Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, Ogun State; University of Ibadan, University of Ilorin, University of Benin, among others.

Globacom’s State Manager in Ondo State, Mr. Olusegun Oguntuase explained during the presentation of the ICT solutions

“Every country that must grow needs the help of its academic populace to conduct researches for social development and enhancement of technological know-how. This is only possible where students and their teachers have access to seamless internet and good phones. There is a vast body of knowledge available on the internet for solutions to human problems.”

Globacom wants members of the university community to avail themselves of the company’s data clinic to upgrade to Glo 4G in order to experience the new speed of life as well as the memorable communication solutions available on the network while assuring them that Globacom has the widest, most reliable 4G LTE coverage across the country.
