UNILORIN ranked third best varsity in Nigeria

UNILORIN

Globacom’s empowerment scheme for tertiary institutions in the country berthed at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) on Tuesday with the presentation of free communication packages to the school and five of its best performing students.

The programme, being undertaken by the telecommunications firm along with global ICT solutions provider, Huawei, saw the following outstanding students receiving Huawei smartphones and Glo data packages: Nissi Emma-Adama of the Computer Science Department; Akinleye Enoch of Biochemistry Department; Famuyiwa Oluwaseyi of Statistics Department; Abdullahi Adekola  of Medicine Department and Oluwakorede Adedeji of Pharmacy Department. The university also received routers preloaded with Glo data. The facilities are meant to assist the students and the institution in their research and learning endeavour.

Globacom’s State Manager in charge of Kwara State, Folarin Fafiyebi, who presented the items on behalf of Globacom reiterated the company’s interest in the academic development of students and staff of the university. He explained that this was why it provided the package to the school in conjunction with Huawei.

Fafiyebi noted that the super-fast Glo 4G coverage was available in most higher institutions in the country, adding that this accentuates Globacom’s position as the network with the widest 4G coverage in the country. He also called on the university community “to  upgrade to the technology in order to avail themselves of the new speed of life and enjoy  memorable communication experience on the network”.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of the school, Professor Bolaji Sule, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdukareem Age, expressed gratitude to Globacom  for the kind gesture which, he said, would empower the beneficiaries to carry out their academic activities and also spur other students to be more industrious in their studies.

He explained that the university selected the beneficiaries based on their exceptional academic performance and excellent character on campus.
Professor Sule encouraged other students of the university to maintain the reputation of excellence, integrity and diligence which the school has been known for since it was established in 1975.
