Germany defeat Chile to win 2017 Confederations Cup

World champions, Germany, battled their way to the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup title on Sunday, beating Chile 1-0 in a tight final at St. Petersburg, Russia.
Lars Stindl gave the Germans a first-half lead against the run of play, taking advantage of some dreadful defending.
Diaz was robbed of the ball inside the area by Werner, who squared unselfishly for Lars Stindl to tap into an empty net.
Chile went close on several occasions after the break, but their top stars faltered in front of goal.
The South Americans started the match in typical frenetic style, but failed to make their domination count, until the world champions struck in the middle of the first half.
Although the Chileans continued to press in the second half, the Germans held on to victory.
Portugal earlier in the day clinched third place, with a 2-1 win over Mexico.
