Former Minister of Communications, Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (Rtd), has described the appointment of Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya as the substantive and pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu, as a right step.

A statement on Wednesday October 5, 2022 by the Public Affairs Unit, Office of the Special Adviser on Education, noted that Odusanya’s appointment approved by the governor took effect from September 29, 2022.

Sanwo-Olu had, at the take-off of the new university, approved the appointment of the then substantive rector of the former Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Dr Nurudeen Olaleye, as the acting vice chancellor of the university pending the selection and appointment of the substantive vice-chancellor.

The statement explained that “It has become imperative to appoint a substantive Vice Chancellor for LASUSTECH to ensure that there is no void in the university’s leadership and to maintain the necessary stability of the institution.

“Odusanya, until his new appointment was a Professor of Community and Primary Health in the Department of Community Health and Primary Health Care, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, Lagos State University.”

Reacting to the development, General Tajudeen Olanrewaju, a known advocate for the involvement of Lagos indigenes in the day-to-day affairs of the state, said Governor Sanwo-Olu has done this what is right.

“All is well that ends well. This professor came first in LASU VC’s appointment interview and was denied the opportunity. The last in the list, Mrs Bello became the no 1. This time around Prof Odusanya has been appointed the pioneer VC of the Technology University.

“My struggle in this matter is justice, fair play and putting a stop to marginalisation of Lagosians, who are indigenes. I don’t know all the professors affected by this policy of the State Government. Lagos State indigenes cannot be excluded from the State governance participation through wrong and deliberate state policies.

“This is a good step so far. We want to see more IBILE’s spirit in Lagos State affairs. Omo Eko Pataki is set up to seek for the rights and protection of aborigines/natives of IBILE and not against any individuals who feel because they hold power temporarily can use their power, position and authority to deny the natives their heritage and entitlement. It’s as clear as the sky. All the same, all is well that ends well,” General Olanrewaju said.

Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, an indigene of Lagos State, was born on February 8, 1965.
