Ex-French President Sarkozy set for trial over 2012 campaign

Former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, was found guilty by a Paris criminal court on Thursday on some counts in a trial related to alleged campaign funds from Libya when the late Muammar Gaddafi was in charge of the North African country.

A Paris criminal court convicted him of criminal conspiracy but acquitted him of charges of bribery, illegal campaign financing and benefiting from the embezzlement of public funds.

The verdict is not yet final, and an appeal is possible.

The former head of state has consistently denied the accusations.
