Lawyer sues IGP, CP, seeks N1bn damages over killing of two FUOYE students

FUOYE

For the umpteenth time, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) shone like a northern Star as it emerged overall best in the recently concluded Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET) academic contest.
The competition organised for many mechatronics/Engineering departments of Universities in the country was held in Abuja amidst fanfare.
This was just as the Institution received five hectares of land from an Ekiti community, Itaji-Ekiti in urgent preparation for a takeoff its sandwich programmes and agriculture factory being organized by the Faculty of Education under the Deanship of Prof.
A statement by Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede, the Chief Information Officer to the Vice-Chancellor and Mr Wole Balogun, the Special Adviser on Media Matters, said FUOYE was retaining the CODET’s topmost position after clinching the golden trophy in the 2018 edition of the contest.
The implication of this is that FUOYE has the best Mechatronics Department in the country for the best training in Engineering courses.
Director of FUOYE’s Directorate of Pre-Degree programmes, an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Dr. Adekunle Adefemi, who had represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, to receive the honour on FUOYE’s behalf in Abuja on Wednesday, said “our institution clinched the first position in CODET competition in 2018 to the admiration of the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Soremekun, all thanks to the great efforts of the then Dean of Engineering, Prof. Babatope Alabadan including Dr. Adefemi Adekunle, Dr. Abiodun Arowolo, Engr. Prof. Adagbonyin Obiazi, the entire Faculty of Engineering and the now late Prof. Temitope Adejuyigbe of blessed memory, who founded the FUOYE Mechatronics Department.”
Adekunle went on: “FUOYE team topped all the Engineering competitors in Nigerian competition by coming first in group competition with Robotic Surveillance car with night vision camera that can be viewed from home, which can be controlled remotely at a100m distance. “Congratulations to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, and the entire Management Team, the Dean of Engineering, Prof. B. O. Bolaji, represented by Prof. O.O Amu, current Head of Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Engr. Martins, and the Delegates, led by Prof. Alabadan and Dr. Daniel; Josiah Àti of Mechatronics Department and his team made it again for FUOYE!.
“We came first at the Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology (CODET) contest at Abuja and FUOYE’s was decorated on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at the International Conference Centre Abuja, for coming tops in Single Categories and emerging second best in the Group Categories as well.
“I want to congratulate the former Dean, Prof. Amu on the wisdom used in settling the issue that would have made us to lose out totally if not intelligently resolved with respect to the project presented at the competition. God bless you sir. While congratulating Dr. Daniel for the beautiful coordination, I can never but appreciate Mr. Josiah Àti of Mechatronics Department. Ati remains my wonderful son, handed over to me to be groomed and mentored by Professor Ogunwole, the current VC of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, for his steadfastness and intelligence displayed during the course of the project. I equally appreciate the Computer Engineering students that won the group project, Mr. Daniel Ibinaye and Sunday Oluyele.
“For our current VC, Prof. Fasina, the newest feat at CODET is a double celebration because incidentally, he had represented the former VC, Prof. Soremekun, in Abuja to receive FUOYE’s award of excellence in 2018 as the then Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Administration, and now, as fate would have it, he is now the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE when a greater feat such as this has occurred.”
Also, adding more colour to the laudable development, is the planned takeoff FUOYE’S sandwich programmes in Summer classes for career teachers in the country.
This dream was fulfilled in a recent meeting of the FUOYE management team being led by the VC with the Itaji-Ekit I traditional ruler, Oba Idowu Adamo Babalola, his chiefs and the Itaji Progressive Union (IPU) led by an Associate Professor of Geology with the Ekiti State University, Dr. Adebayo Olajide.
The IPU however, promised to partner with FUOYE in developing the landed property for the soon-to-begin Summer degree programmes.
Besides, FUOYE is strengthening its partnership on security and student welfare/well-being with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSDC) , Ekiti State Command. This was achieved in a recent parley with the new Ekiti State Corps Commandant, John Fayemi during his courtesy call at the VC’s office alongside his other principal officers.
However, FUOYE Management lauded NSDC, Ekiti State Command, for this great collaboration and assured the Command of the institution’s support and cooperation.

The upwardly mobile Ivory Tower has also opened up several oppurtunities for admissions for teeming admission seekers. These oppurtunities included the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations (JUPEB) programmes for O’ level holders/jambites who desired entry into 200L for several academic programmes.
Pre-Degree programmes for all courses, available for ‘O’ level holders/jambites who may also have shortcomings in their O’ level results but desire admission before they resit their ‘O’ level exams to rectify the shortcomings, and Sandwich programmes for teachers seeking to upgrade their academic qualifications as well as Part-Time programmes which are available for admission seekers desiring both daily lectures and weekend lectures.
Admission into the foregoing programmes are currently ongoing and interested candidates should reach FUOYE through its website: FUOYE.edu.ng.
