Fulfil your promises, judiciary workers tell Al-Makura

Nasarawa State chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) on Saturday urged Governor Tanko Al-Makura to fulfil all his promises to the union.
The chairman of the union, Mr Jimoh Musa, made the call in Lafia, the state capital.
Giving a breakdown of the correspondences between the state government and JUSUN, Musa said both parties held a meeting to resolve the ongoing strike, which ended well.
According to him, both parties reached a compromise but the governor is yet to honour the agreement.
“We held a meeting about a month ago and we reached an agreement to settle and end the strike but the governor has not fulfilled the state government’s part of the agreement. The government claims it has paid but we are still on strike, how can that be? Musa asked rhetorically.
He laid the blame for the continuous strike action at the feet of the state government, which he alleged, cited lack of funds.
“We were supposed to sign an agreement and suspend the strike but the government is not forthcoming. They claim they don’t have money to pay salaries not to talk of settling the issue. We will be waiting for them, any time they feel they are buoyant, they will pay the workers, then we will open the courts,’’ he said.
Also, Musa explained that JUSUN staged a walk-out on the governor during the May Day celebration to express their unhappiness over the state government’s management of their welfare.
“They were not happy. When you are not happy, how can you join your counterparts to celebrate May Day? It was the respect that workers had for the government that made them put up an appearance. That was why after the march, they walked out because it’s like the government has no respect for the state judiciary,’’ he said.
Musa urged the state government to do “the needful’’ by honouring the agreement reached, instead of making “empty promises.’’
