Detectives in Ogun State Police Command have arrested four policemen, who on Sunday shot an operative of Global Concept Limited, one of the companies licensed by the Federal Government to protect pipelines, in Sagamu area of the South-West state.
The deceased (Musibau Jimoh) and others were escorting two vandals arrested in Arepo area of the state by men of Donyx Global Concept Limited and their seized vehicles to the office of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depot in Mosinmi, Shagamu when the incident occurred.
At Sagamu junction, they were accosted by one of the policemen, who allegedly ordered Jimoh to release the impounded vehicles and the arrested suspects to the police team.
He refused, leading to a shouting match and he was shot in the process. When the policeman realised that he had killed Jimoh, he escaped by shooting into the air.
Members of the police team were later arrested and held at Iperu Road Police Station in Sagamu
Jimoh’s colleague, Temitope Odunsi, who was in the bus with him, said: “Jimoh brought out his identification card, which was given to us by our company and NNPC and was explaining to them when one of them snatched it from him and ordered him to stop talking. An argument ensued and one of them shot him at a very close range and he died on the spot.
“We started noticing them at Sagamu interchange but because we could see that they were policemen, we continued with our journey. When we got to the junction that leads to Sagamu, they crossed our vehicle and pointed their rifles at us, asking us where we were going and we explained to them. They insisted that we must surrender the vandals and the product to them but because we don’t know them, we tried to explain that we were going to hand them over to the police at NNPC depot as we have been doing in the past ”
General Manager of Global Concept Limited, Femi Ekundayo, described the incident as callous and wicked.
