Students of Bayelsa State origin studying in Ghana under the state government scholarship programme are now in jubilant mood, following the release of N162 million by Governor Seriake Dickson to clear all their outstanding arrears.‎
‎T‎he governor’s spokesman, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, who disclosed the development on Wednesday, said Dickson gave the approval for the money to be releaed and it has subsequently been remitted to the scholarship board through the Ministry of Education for transfer to the University.
He explained that the news of the governor’s action has already gotten to the students who are very excited and have sent their words of appreciation to the government for keeping up to their responsibilities.‎
‎According to him, the governor is so passionate about education ‎that is why he did not allow the current and very harsh economic situation in the country which has affected the state’s finances badly to hinder the success of the administration’s educational programmes.
‎Iworiso-Markson, however, added that the situation was the reason for the delay in clearing the arrears and e‎xpressed the appreciation of the governor and the entire restoration government to authorities of the university for their extreme show of understanding.
The Chief Press Secretary, who used the opportunity to assure the students  of the commitment of the governor to their welfare, also appeal‎ed to them to reciprocate the gesture by making the state proud in their academic and social conduct.
