For killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, in 2013, South African Paralympic gold medallist, Oscar Pistorius, was on Wednesday sentenced to six years in jail.
Although the popular opinion was that he would be sentenced to, at least, 15 years in prison, High Court Judge Thokozile Masipa said, while sentencing Pistorius: “Public opinion may be loud and persistent, but it can play no role in the decision of this court”.
Pistorius was taken to jail immediately after the verdict.
