Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has said that despite the current flood disaster experienced across the state, God is still very kind to the residents.
Dickson disclosed this on Friday during the state’s annual thanksgiving service held at Bayelsa Ecumenical Centre in Yenagoa.
He thanked God for saving lives of the residents of the state even though the flood incident displaced many homes and caused a lot of damage.
He said: “Bayelsa has every reason to thank God. We have passed through very difficult times in the past few months because of the level of devastation caused by flood.
“But God keeps us all. This thanksgiving is the opportunity to renew our covenant with God as the people,” he said.
The senior pastor of the House on the Rock Ministry, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, urged the people of Bayelsa to recognise God in all their dealings for the state to move forward.
No fewer than 150,000 persons have been displaced by flood in the state, according to Yakubu Suleiman, Coordinator, Emergency Operation Centre E, Rivers/Bayelsa.
Suleiman also said that several homes, farmlands, schools and churches were submerged in the affected communities across eight local government areas (LGAs) of the state.
