Peter Ahmedu, coach of First Bank women basketball team, says his team is going to arrive in Abuja early for the first phase of the Zenith Bank Women League.
Ahmedu said in Abuja on Monday that the team would arrive on March 7 to have enough time to finalise preparations for the competition.
He said the early arrival was to allow the players to be familiar with the court at the event’s venue in Abuja and to enhance their performance.
“We have been training, morning and evening, and we will work hard to win all our games, in the first phase of the league.
“We will arrive one week before the competition starts, because we want our players to understand the environment and be used to the weather,’’ the coach said.
He said the team was satisfied with the club management’s efforts, saying it has provided everything to make both the coaches and players comfortable for the league.
“They will be proud of my players at the end of the league,’’ Ahmedu assured.
The league’s first phase, which was earlier scheduled for Feb. 28 to March 8, will now hold March 18 to March 28.
Eighteen teams, including former champions First Bank and First Deepwater, as well as Oluyole Babes, AHIP, Immigration and Plateau Rocks, will participate in the tournament.
The rest are Taraba Queens, Benue Angels, Dolphins, Sunshine Angels, FCT Angels, GT 2000, Customs, Coal City Angels, Delta Force, Nasarawa Amazons, Zamfara Babes and Police Queens.
