FIFA President: APFON hails NFF on Odegbami

The Association of Professional Footballers of Nigeria (APFON) has applauded the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for endorsing Segun Odegbami as a candidate from Nigeria for the post of FIFA president.
This is contained in a statement by APFON Secretary, Austin Popo, on Saturday, where he was quoted as saying that the body was delighted with the development.
The statement said APFON was expecting the NFF leadership to take this right decision, given the visionary qualities of its board members.

“To us as players, the NFF has again scored a major feat in its untiring quest to reposition Nigerian football by affirming the position of the players’ union.

“Now is the time for Nigerians to rally round our nominee, Segun Odegbami, and mobilise support for the big stage. God can do anything for anything to happen.

“Nobody gave David any chance against Goliath. Once again, congratulations to Big Segun, APFON, NFF and Nigeria,’’ the statement said.

An extraordinary elective FIFA congress would hold on February 26, 2016 in Zurich, Switzerland, to elect a new president after Sepp Blatter, its president, would have stepped down.
Blatter, currently serving a 90-day suspension, had been under a series of allegations bordering on corruption leveled against him by FIFA.
