Egyptian Mohammed Salah has been shortlisted alongside nine others for the 2018 FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award alongside Harry Kane, highest goal scorer at the 2018 World Cup.
World football governing body FIFA announced on Tuesday that five-time UEFA Champions League winner Cristiano Ronaldo and Russia 2018 Golden Ball winner Luka Modric also made the list.
Argentina captain Lionel Messi, as well as the Best Young Player of the World Cup, Kylian Mbappe, made the cut.
After aiding his clubside, Atletico Madrid, to the Europa Cup title and France to the 2018 World Cup victory, Antoine Griezmann also have a spot in the list.
Others are Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.
Ten candidates in each of the four categories have been named, and the men’s awards nominees were selected from the period of July 3, 2017 to July 15, 2018.
Those in the female categories were picked from the period of August 7, 2017 to May 24, 2018.
FIFA will announce the final lists of the three nominees for each of the four categories listed above in early September.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 24 in London.
It is the latest edition of the annual awards FIFA has staged ever since the launch of the FIFA World Player Gala in 1991.
