The Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Moro, on Friday in Katsina said the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) had repositioned itself to strengthen efficiency in the fight against crime.
Moro said this during the commissioning of some projects at the College of Peace, Conflict Resolution and Disaster Management.
The projects commissioned included one male hostel, an administrative block and a block of 36 units of one bedroom houses.
He said the college was established in line with the policy thrust of the Federal Government to develop and strengthen the capacity of all security personnel.
The minister said the new projects would provide adequate ground for the corps to acquire knowledge and skills.
He said with such knowledge, the corps could effectively tackle insecurity problems in the country.
He commended efforts of Gov. Ibrahim Shema of Katsina state in providing the support that brought remarkable development to the college.
Moro appealed to the governor to continually co-operate with the corps in its efforts at enhancing national security.
He charged men and officers of the corps to ensure effective use and management of the facilities.
In his remarks, Dr Ade Abolurin, the Commandant-General of the corps, underscored the determination of the corps to attain sustainable security.
He said this would be achieved through the promotion of peace as well as a disaster free environment.
Abolurin said the corps would therefore continue to train its personnel to improve their skills and knowledge to achieve the mandate.
“It is our belief that with adequate training and re-training of our security personnel, the enhancement of national security is achievable,” he said.
Abolurin said the corps would develop the college into a model institution of international standard.
“This will encourage and promote exchange programmes with member states of International Civil Defence Organisations (ICDO).
“It will also promote exchange of ideas, knowledge and be a source of revenue generation to the nation,” Abolurin said.
He called on all stakeholders in the security sector to be involved in the programmes offered by the college in order to reposition the sector for better service delivery.
