The PDP-led Federal Government has established 3,389 functional primary health centres nationwide in the last one year in enhancing health care delivery system at the grassroots.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Olisa Metuh, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to him, this is in addition to modernisation of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital,Ile-Ife and the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) among others.
The PDP spokesman said the feat was contrary to claims by the opposition.
He said that the federal government’s investment in the health sector had led to outstanding feat of medical surgeries in the country.
According to him, some of the recently modernised hospitals made history in February 2012 by successfully carrying out the first stem cell transplant in the country.
“This feat was followed by the University College Hospital Ibadan, becoming the first Nigerian hospital to perform an open heart surgery in October 2013,’’ Metuh said.
He said that from available evidence, it was clear that the President Jonathan-led government was investing in the health sector to ensure good health for Nigerians.
He said that it was therefore unfortunate that the oppositions were accusing the government of not doing enough in the health sector when there was enough on the ground to show.
He said that Nigerians in states governed by opposition parties were still relying on federal government health facilities such as the Lagos University Teaching Hospital and the National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi among others.
