FG delivers trailer loads of grains to Enugu Govt

The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has delivered trailer loads of assorted grains to Enugu State Government to cushion the effects of COVID-19 in the state

Presenting the items to the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq said the gesture was from President Muhammadu Buhari.

The minister, who was represented by an official of the ministry, Mr Charles Aniedo, said that the assorted grains were from the national food reserve. She said that the outbreak of the COVID-19 has brought untold hardship and challenges to the people, which include the aged, people physically challenged, internally displaced, persons seeking asylum.

Farouq said the food items were 53 trailer load of maize, and 26 trailer load of garri for 47,200 household in Enugu State.
She said that the gesture would help in cushioning the effects of COVID-19 , now that the country is on post COVID-19 period.
The minister disclosed that federal government was developing strategies that will help cushion the effects of COVID-19.
She added that the gesture was extended to 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Speaking, the Deputy Governor, who is also the chairman of the Enugu State Emergency Palliative Committee, thanked Buhari “for remembering Enugu State.
He has been so wonderful to our people. Few weeks ago, we went and reopened the airport. Today, he has given us palliative. We are looking forward to hosting the minister”, she said.
The Commissioner for Transport, Mathias Ekweremadu, received the items on behalf of the state government. He promised that the items would be distributed to the beneficiaries accordingly.
