Two top Globacom Premier League teams, Rangers International of Enugu and Sunshine Stars FC of AKure Wednesday crashed out of the 2013 Federation Cup as they were sent packing in round of 16 to Akwa United and Nasarawa United respectively.
Rangers fell 1-2 to Akwa United in a match played at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, while Sunshine Stars lost 1-0 to Nasarawa United at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.
In Akure, Warri Wolves beat Niger Tornadoes 1-0, while Akwa Starlets eliminated fellow NNL side, Abia Warriors 2-0 in Calabar. In Jos, Kano Pillars pipped Gombe United 1-0 to move to the next round.
Defending champions, Heartland FC of Owerri had to rely luck to win by penalty shoot out against Sharks of Port Harcourt, winning 4-3. The game had ended 1-0 at the end of regulation time.
In Minna, Lobi Stars defeated Abubarkar Bukola Saraki Babes of Ilorin 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out after the game ended 1-1 at regulation time.
