Nasarawa United thrashed City of David (COD) United 4-0 in Ilorin to progress to the last 16 of the Federation Cup.
Victor Namo set the Solid Miners on their way to victory with a brace in the first half, while Dajang Wash and Habu Mohammed completed the rout in the second period.
Nasarawa United defender Debekeme Tamarakuro said that COD put up a good fight, but they (Nasarawa United) were quite clinical in front of goal.
“COD surprised us with their brilliant approach play, but I guess it was one of those days when we could just do nothing wrong,” he said.
“We’ve not been finding it easy in front of goal lately, but we took our chances very well in this game.
“I don’t think they were too many of us who thought we would score as many as four goals, and I hope it would help boost the confidence of our attackers as we have a long season ahead.
“We are ready for anybody, and we know we are likely to draw premiership opposition in the next round.”
COD head coach, Augustine Eguavoen virtually agreed with Debekeme when he blamed the defeat on inexperience.
“I think the main difference between the two sides was in the finishing,” he said.
“Our inexperience was glaring, because we did everything perfect until we got to the last third of the pitch.
“The scoreline didn’t reflect our input, and I’ve told my players I was pleased with the way they played.
“The result was quite unfortunate, so we have to go back home and correct our mistakes.”
Nasarawa United United are 14th in the Glo Premier League, while COD are 11th in the 15-team National League, Group B.
