An interest group, Ago-Iwoye Patriots, on Thursday, drummed support for the re-election bid of the Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adesegun Adekoya, who is seeking a third term in the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
The National Assembly election holds on February 25.
The group, which is a coalition of Ago-Iwoye indigenes at home and in the diaspora, also donated a sum of N5 million to boost the lawmaker’s campaign across the Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency.

Presenting the N5 million cheque to Adekoya at the Ago-Iwoye City Stadium, one of the projects facilitated by the recipient, the Chairman of the group’s Fundraising Committee, Prince Olufunmi Sipe, expressed the determination of members to embark on massive sensitisation and mobilisation for the lawmaker’s victory at the poll.

Sipe said many Ago-Iwoye indigenes, who believe in good governance, were overwhelmed by the lawmaker’s genuine commitment to serving his constituents as well as the avalanche of projects he had attracted to the area.

He said, “This association is a coalition of Ago-Iwoye indigenes home and abroad who believe in good governance. It was actually inaugurated on January 3, 2023 and it was established to promote and support good governance.

“It is so clear that our dear son, Hon Abdelmajid Adesegun Adekoya, popularly called Attacker, has done so well as the federal lawmaker representing us in Abuja. He has facilitated several projects that bear relevance to our needs in Ago-Iwoye and other parts of the federal constituency like skills acquisition and vocational training centres, the almost completed Ago-Iwoye City Stadium and federal health institution that deals with infertility.

“He has built mosques, churches, markets, and awarded scholarships to several students and equally distributed several empowerment tools. He has constructed roads, provided water and done rural electrification projects. He has shown rare genuineness to serve and we thought that whatever we too have should be harnessed to support him.”

“As at today,” Sipe added, “we have gotten 145 members, out of which 88 donors contributed this token amount of N5 million as initial financial support to the lawmaker’s campaign so that he can do much better. Apart from that, we have started our grassroots campaign to ensure that his re-election is a resounding success.”

Also speaking, a former Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Engr. Bayo Dayo, commended the thoughtfulness of the group to support Adekoya for the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Dayo described the federal lawmaker as a very rare politician with caring heart for service, who deserves another term in office because he had judiciously used the opportunity given him to serve.

Responding, Adekoya said the donation by members of the group was noble and historic, adding that he would never forget the kind gesture.

The lawmaker, who recalled some of his projects across the constituency, declared that the support would encourage him to do more if he is re-elected.

Adekoya berated the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for failing to fulfill its electoral promises and urged the electorate to vote for PDP and all its candidates in the forthcoming elections.
