FBI investigation stops Blatter from U.S.

The last time FIFA President Sepp Blatter stepped foot in the United States (U.S.) was in 2011. And it is likely that Blatter won’t be traveling stateside any time soon.
News of the more than three-year-old FBI investigation into FIFA corruption broke last November, but it was unclear whether Blatter, who is running for his fifth term as FIFA president, was one of the senior officials at the world soccer governing body being investigated.
The investigation is said to centre on corruption allegations surrounding the awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup tournaments to Russia and Qatar, respectively.
FIFA conducted its own report on the bids last year, which was never made public.
The chief investigator, American lawyer Michael Garcia, later resigned to protest FIFA’s decision not to release the 350-page report in full.
Instead, FIFA released a 42-page summary that Garcia says diluted the truth, essentially finding no significant wrongdoing in the bids.
The FBI investigation is said to have sought the report’s full contents, and according to the “E:60″ documentary, a former senior American official in the organisation is helping with the probe. The identity of the senior official has not been released. A report last year states that Chuck Blazer, who served on the organisation’s Executive Committee from 1996 to 2013, was the FBI’s confidential informant.
Some of the alleged findings the summary of Garcia’s report left out in FIFA’s 42-page summary reportedly include pointed criticism of Blatter and other FIFA executives who hadn’t previously been heavily criticized over the alleged corruption relating to the bids.
