Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has described the purported interview the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, had with a local television station, “All Eyes on African TV” in London as a deceit.
This is even as the governor declared that President Goodluck Jonathan has already won the March 28 presidential election, “even before the election is conducted”.
Fayose equally re-emphasized that Buhari can never be the President.
The Ekiti Governor spoke on Monday at a crowded press in Abuja.
The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, it would be recalled, had last Saturday circulated a picture of Buhari which he purportedly had during an interview with Kemi Fadojutimi of the television station.
However, Fayose pointed out that the said picture, which he displayed at the press conference from a newspaper that published it, was taken at Room 880 at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.
Incidentally, the press conference by Fayose yesterday took place also in Room 880 of the hotel.
Said Fayose: “This is height of desperation, it is misleading. This is the character of a man who wants to be the president of Nigeria.
“General Buhari was in Transcorp, telling Nigerians he was in London. He should stop deceiving Nigerians”, he stated.
The governor re-enacted before newsmen the scene where the interview was purportedly held.
He pointedly accused Buhari of cutting corners and APC of propaganda.
The setting of the room 880, the chairs where the interview and the interviewee sat, the table, flower and table light, were similar with those in the picture shown to Nigerians after the purported interview.
Continuing, Fayose added: “I am here to present to you facts and fact speaks for itself. APC knows Buhari is not holding any meeting in London.
“General Buhari is not well, he is sick in the hospital. This is not personal. I am not against the North, I am not against the South. Our leaders should show us their medical records.
“I am saying that Nigeria needs a healthy leader, who will be able to address the problems of this country.
“Even in advanced countries, those wishing to lead present their medical records because they know the amount of energy to be deployed”, the governor said.
He faulted the claim by the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation that he sent people trailing General Buhari during his working visit in London, describing the report as petty.
Fayose stated that at Buhari’s age, he (Fayose) doesn’t need to run after him.
He said: “My prayer is that he lives long. Buhari is too old to even govern a state. He is frail, old and not strong to run the affairs of this country”.
Contacted for response, Director, Media and Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu, pointed out the campaign office was not going to join issues with Fayose.
He said: “We are not going to join issues with him (Fayose), we have issues of security, stolen money and unemployment
in the country. Those are the challenges facing Nigerians and that is what we want to talk about,” Shehu stated.
