The former Minister of Works and Housing, Dr Babatunde Fashola, is to deliver the 27th Convocation Lecture (2022/2023) of the Lagos State University (LASU) slated for June 4.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said this at a pre-convocation news conference on Thursday in Lagos.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the theme of the lecture is: “Embracing the Future: Navigating the Intersection of Technology and Humanity.”

“Fashola was conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Urban and Rural Community Development and Youth Empowerment) at our last convocation.

“The convocation lecture will be chaired by Emeritus Prof. Peter Okebukola, who was a distinguished Professor of Science and Computer Education until retirement from our university.

“Okebukola was conferred with the exclusive rank of Emeritus Professor, the first in the history of our institution by the Senate of the University,” she said.

Olatunji-Bello added that, apart from the 89 doctorate awardees, it would confer honorary doctorate degrees on four eminent Nigerians for their invaluable contributions to the development of Nigeria.

She said that the awardees are: Distinguished Prof. Martins Anetekhai, who would be honored as an Emeritus Professor, and Prof. Amidu Sanni honoured as Distinguished Professor.

“Others include: Prince Tajudeen Olusi (OON), who will receive an Honorary Doctor of Literature (History, Education and Community Development), Honoris Causa.

“Prince Samuel Adedoyin will be given an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Commerce, Industry and National Development) Honoris Causa,” Olatunji-Bello said.

She added that in the area of infrastructural development, it had, with solid support of the Lagos State Government and well-meaning individuals, expanded its infrastructure base with new buildings.

“Worthy of mention are the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre, LASU ACEITSE STEM Education laboratory building and Samuel Adedoyin ICT Centre recently handed over to the University.

“We also revamped and remodelled some of our existing facilities including the students affairs building through the support of TETFUND,” Olatunji-Bello said.
