Media professionals, Catholic faithful, friends and family members of former presidential spokesperson, Mrs Oluremi Oyo, on Tuesday in Lagos, honoured her with a thanksgiving service to mark 10 years of her death.

Oyo, also a President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), died on Oct. 1, 2014, during an illness.

She was the presidential spokesperson during the administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

The family members, friends, media professionals and others participated in her 10th year remembrance and thanksgiving service at the Catholic Church of Presentation, Ikeja.

The Managing Director of NAN, Malam Ali M Ali, was represented at the occasion by the Head of Lagos Office of NAN, Mr Adeleye Ajayi.

former Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Chief Stephen Oronsaye; NGE President, Mr Eze Anaba; and former presidential spokespersons, Messrs Reuben Abati and Femi Adesina, were at the service.

A former Editor-in-Chief of NAN, Mr Isaac Ighure, and the Publisher of ThisDay newspaper, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, were also among the dignitaries who participated in the service.

In a sermon, Rev. Fr. Vincent Olofinkua of the Catholic Church of Presentation, described Oyo as a distinguished human being who impacted many lives.

“Oyo’s life, times and legacies ought to resonate in people’s daily approach to life to make a better society,” the cleric said.

He described Oyo as generous and humane, adding that she used her position and resources to help people across tribes and backgrounds.

“Oyo was a woman of unwavering faith, generousity and kindness, a woman of talents both in the church and public service.

“She played vital role in shaping NAN.

“Her faith in the Catholic Church was unparalleled.

” As we reflect on the life of our beloved Felicia Oluremi Oyo, we should keep her legacy alive by being humane,” he admonished.

On Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day anniversary, the cleric said that Nigerians should pray and hope for a better Nigeria.

“We desire a country where justice and peace shall reign, we want a country where all citizens are valued and a country where youths have a bright future.

“Let’s be the change we all desire,” he said.

Mrs Oyo’s widower, Mr Vincent Oyo, told NAN that his family missed his late wife much but had continued to be comforted by the legacies she left behind.

“Ten years is a time of healing. With the passage of time, the pain of her departure is going.

“The grace of God has been sustaining us,” he said.
