The Afonja Descendants Union has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the planned probe of politically-motivated killings in the country to the death of former Minister of Works, General AbdulKarim Adisa.
At a media briefing in Ogbomoso, Chairman of the Union, Alhaji Olola Kasumu, said the probe became necessary because of the circumstance that led to the death of the former military governor of the old Oyo State.
According to him, ‘’ late General Adisa travelled to Kogi State, from Ilorin, capital of Kwara State where he attended the burial ceremony of retired General David Jemibewon’s mother. While returning, he was ambushed by a threè-man gang between Oke-onigbin and Oro road . He was cold-bloodedly murdered for making what they referred to as ‘’offensive and disturbing’’ statement.’’
Kasumu stated that the people of Kwara State in general and the Afonja Descendants in particular would, forever, be grateful to the Buhari-led administration if the death of the General could be probed and all the perpetrators of the dastardly act be made to face the full weight of the law.
He cautioned Buhari against playing to the gallery or sitting on the fence on emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President which is riddled with crises and the alleged forgeries of Senate rules.
‘’Most Ilorin people are of the conviction that the President is under spell not to deal with Dr. Saraki. How can the President fight corruption with corrupt lawmakers as leaders of the Senate? Somebody committed impunity by turning over the House rules, which is a criminal offence. Can impunity be fought with impunity? President Buhari appears too slow and like a dormant lion which must be woken up, otherwise the government will cease from him. For the President not to act fast and take the bull by the horn on the Senate leadership is like sitting on a keg of gun powder waiting to explode’’.
He accused Saraki of desperately intolerant to opposition views, saying the Senate President is presently grooming some young men, known as Hit Squad, who go about threatening lives of perceived enemies and those whose views are considered ‘’offensive’’.
Kasumu who is also the Leader, Beacon Light of Anti-corruption Crusade, reiterated the support of Afonja Descendants Union for the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to become the pioneer Chairman of the All Progressives Congress [APC] Board of Trustees [BOT].
In his words, ‘’APC without Asiwaju Tinubu is like African map without Madagascar. The national leader of the party remains not only bedrock of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, but bedrock of Yoruba history”.
