It was kudos and excitements galore in the ancient town.of Oyo, following the re appointment of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba ( Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, for second term as the Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri in Borno State.

President Muhammadu Buhari had recently approved the re appointment of the Alaafin for second term as the Chancellor of the institution.

Cross section of elated residents who beesieged the Palace to congratulate their monarch described him as “a quintessential, visionary, redoubtable, and awesome Paramount Ruler whose legacies, life and times on the throne in the last 50 years remain source of inspiration to other monarchs and the younger generation”.

They stated that they were in the Palace of their dedicated Ruler with greatest respect and honour, to share the joy of the entire Oyo land in congratulating His Majesty’s re appointment as Chancellor for the second term.

They were full of praises to God almighty for what they said ” had given them an highly cerebral and most gracious beloved King”

”Oyo land has attained world recognition and admiration due to the nobility and greatness of our King. The Majesty’s wise leadership has brought peace and happiness to the land in particular and Oyo State in general, thus making the people to revere their King with high regard and respect”.

The University of Maiduguri which took off in 1976 with just about three hundred students in three Faculties now has an enrolment of over forty thousand undergraduate, postgraduate and non regular students spread over eleven Faculties, a College of Medical Sciences and the University’s seven specialised research and development centres.

The University has more than three thousand senior and junior academic and non-academic staff.

During the first term tenure of the Alaafin as the Chancellor, the University of Maiduguri has always enjoyed industrial harmony between management and labour unions on campus as well as mutual understanding between management and students despite the security challenges in the North East.

The university’s cordial relationship with it’s stakeholders has also attracted enormous goodwill for the University.

Addressing the people, Oba (Dr) Abdul-Hamid Olayiwola Adeyemi III thanked the Federal Government for finding him worthy of being re appointed as Chancellor to the University of Maiduguri for the second term.

He assured that he will not relent in his oars, but do everything possible within his powers to ensure that the University is globally recognised in all its fields of human endeavours.

University administration he said is not something new to him as he had been the founding Chancellor of the Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto for three consecutive terms of four years each, and will therefore use his vast experience in ensuring that the University of Maiduguri gains from his wealth of experience.
