A former member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cairo Ojougboh, is dead.
He represented Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State in the Lower Chamber.
The former Director in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) died while watching the Super Eagles of Nigeria AFCON semi final match against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Bouake, Cote d’Ivoire, on Wednesday.
The outspoken politician reportedly slumped and died when Nigeria’s second goal was cancelled by the referee and a penalty kick awarded to South Africa.
Nigeria eventually won the match on penalties (4-2) and will meet Cotê d’Ivoire on Sunday.
A source close to the Ojougboh family confirmed the death.
“As soon as a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria during the AFCON match, he slumped. We tried to revive him to know avail. It is an unfortunate situation”.
