Ex-presidential candidate, Olapade Agoro dies at 77

Popular politician, cleric, monarch, school administrator, National Chairman and former Presidential candidate of the National Action Council (NAC), Dr. Olapade Agoro, is dead.
Agoro was born on October 9, 1943 at Ajibabi Village of Ibadan to a Prince of Atapami Dynasty of Itapa Ijesha, late Omo-Oba Owa ‘Tapa Joshua Alaba Agoro and his wife, late Mother in Israel Dorcas Oyejola Asabi Agoro.

He was educated severally through Primary School, Secondary School, Enfield Training Centre, Colleges of Technology at Willesden London NW10 and Gateshead Co. Durham, California Western University, University of Ibadan and later California Coast University (CCU) ending up with a Doctorate Degree in Interdisciplinary Engineering.
In 1982, he was installed the Owa ‘Tapa of Itapa-Ijesha, an Obaship Traditional title.

He appeared in so many interviews in print and electronic media worldwide and was one of the most read opinion leaders in Nigeria.

He also appeared in so many testy case trials as Litigant In Person in the UK, U.S., and Nigerian courts ranging from Customary Court, Magistrate Court, High Court of Justice, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, Crown Court and House of Lords.

After having succeeded in promoting education management at Nursery/Primary, Secondary and Business Schools, he established Olapade Agoro Business University (OABU).

Agoro worked for four and a half years with the then Western State Government of Nigeria and came tops in the workshop conducted by one Mr. Stephens for the World Bank.

He rose to the top of his career, first as Progress Officer, Ministry of Works & Transport, Central Mechanical Workshop, Eleiyele, Ibadan.

He was then posted in 1971 by Engineer Walkley, Chief Mechanical Engineer (a Briton), to head the Vehicle Inspection Division, Akure, Ondo Province, the then largest Province in Nigeria.

It was at Akure that he worked out and experimented first with the idea of Road Safety campaign.

In July 1973, he resigned and voluntarily left government service.
In the same year, he started his own company, ROAAG Company Nig. Ltd.

He was Publisher of “People’s journal International Magazine”, “PJ news” and authored 18 books; the latest being “My Prison Experience – Narratives of police Brutality, Rights Abuse and Judgement Fixing”.
