Leading Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny died for his ideals, European Council President, Charles Michel, said on X, formerly Twitter.
“Fighters die. But the fight for #freedom never ends,” Michel said.
Navalny fought for the “values of freedom and democracy” and made “the ultimate sacrifice” for his ideals, Michel said.
“I extend my deepest condolences to his family. And to those who fight for democracy around the world in the darkest conditions,” he added.
