German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz said on Thursday that Europe is united in supporting Ukraine to defend its own country.
“It is very important that we support Ukraine. We are doing that on a large scale,” Scholz said, arriving at a meeting of almost 50 European leaders in Ukraine’s neighbouring country Moldova.
Scholz called Germany’s support for Ukraine “an outstanding contribution,” stressing that it amounts to the second largest contribution made by a single country after the United States.
Scholz and French President, Emmanuel Macron are to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky later on Thursday, the German delegation announced.
For Scholz and Zelensky, it will be the third meeting in person within three weeks, after having recently met in Berlin and Japan.
Scholz and Macron are also to try to mediate in the conflict between Kosovo and Serbia by speaking with Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovar President, Vjosa Osmani separately.
