The delegation of the European Union Election Observation Mission said on Monday it had no reason to doubt that the inauguration of a president for Nigeria would take place on May 29.
The Chief Observer of the mission, Mr Santiago Fisas, stated this while speaking to State House Correspondents shortly after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan at the State House, Abuja.
He said that Jonathan had assured the delegation that the inauguration would be on May 29, and described it as “very good news’’.
“Yes, I don’t see why I must doubt about that, because he is the president and he said that publicly, and he said that also to us.
“I raised the question about if there could be any concern about security but he said that in a very short time the security matters would be dealt with,’’ he said.
Fisas said that his delegation had met the stakeholders in the elections and had also met the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, twice.
He said that the team was grateful that the president met with his team which included the EU Ambassadors and the Deputy Chief of Chair and other colleagues.
According to him, Jonathan’s promise was in recognition of the Constitution and to deepen democracy in the country as the election is not about Jonathan.
