Ethiopian Airlines has emerged Africa’s Best Airlines in 2018, making it the seventh for the airline in a row.
A statement by the airline’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tewolde GebreMariam, on Tuesday, said the award was given to the airline by African Airlines Association (AFRAA).
GebreMariam said the award was in recognition of the airline’s exceptional financial performance at the 50th AFRAA Annual General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco.
He said that the airline was thrilled at the prestigious award, adding that in the last seven years, the company had been attending AFRAA AGA and receiving the continental high-profile award every year.
According to him, the award underscores the continuous effort and hard work of Ethiopian employees who are highly committed to the extraordinary success of our airline.
“The accolade also attests to the soundness of our fast, profitable and sustainable growth plan, Vision 2025 and the associated business model.
“Our sincere gratitude also goes to our customers worldwide for giving us the opportunity to serve them, for traveling on Ethiopian in great numbers, for their feedback and support which are critical success factors.
“Africa is registering rapid economic growth which holds a very strong future and I would like to remind my fellow industry partners, governments and all stakeholders that we all need to strategize on how we all can work together.
“We need to capitalize on the opportunities arising from the business and investment boom in the continent and take the role of air connectivity to the next level.
“Most of all, we all need to synergize our strengths to realize the vision of creating a single and unified African Air Transport market.
“Ethiopian Airlines registered a record in key financial metrics in the 2017/2018 fiscal period,” he said.
