Super Eagles’ defender, Semilore Ajayi, created a bit of history on Saturday, scoring Hull City’s first goal in the Premier League since a 7-1 home loss by Tottenham in May 2017.
After gaining promotion through the play-offs, their first game of the campaign didn’t come easy, facing Manchester United in their first game, but it turned out to be a game to remember after shocking their opponent 2-0.
Ajayi gave them the lead when he lashed in after Oli McBurnie’s initial effort was tipped on to the post by United keeper Senne Lammens.
And fellow defender and club-record signing Nobel Mendy scored on his debut when he headed in from Regan Slater’s free-kick to seal a superb success.
Speaking after the game, Ajayi said they are focusing on themselves and not what people are saying.
“It was amazing, it capped off a great start that we had had,” he said.
“I was buzzing to get the goal that got us on our way. I didn’t really care if any of us scored, there was no VAR check so I was buzzing that we got the goal.
“We’re not focused on outside noise, we back ourselves to do well and hopefully we will have a really positive season.”
