The second round of the 2014/2015 Globacom Premier League season kicked off on August 2 with 19 goals recorded in the first round of matches.
There was no away win, while four draws were recorded in the tournament after its two-week break.
Enyimba International FC of Aba assumed the top spot at the end of the matches, dethroning Sunshine Fc of Akure which led the log at the end of the first stanza.
Enyimba moved to the top spot for the first time this season with 37points from 20 games.

The team forced the oriental rivals Rangers International of Enugu to a 1-1 draw in Aba.

Onoriode Odah and Musa Najere were on the score sheet for both teams respectively.

Rangers are still in 10th position on the table with 28 points.

Rangers Coach Imama Amapakbo expressed disappointment with the performance of his players for picking just one point from the two league games against Enyimba in the season.

Enugu Rangers lost 1-2 to Enyimba in the first fixture at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on July 19 and also drew 1-1in Aba.

“I feel bad with the 1-1 score line by Enyimba as this is a game we deserved to get more than just a point. Picking just a point out of six is not really a good one for us in the ongoing league season. In both legs of the encounter, we created more chances which we did not use and I do not understand why the players allowed those chances to go unused,’’ he said.

However, the commencement of the second stanza was a victorious return for Ndubisi Nduka, Coach of FC Taraba, after defeating former league leaders Sunshine Stars of Akure 1-0 in a Week 20 clash played at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo.

Stephen Adah was on target for the Jalingo-based club as Sunshine Stars dropped to second position with 36 points, while Taraba are 20 with 16 points from 20 matches.

Wiki Tourist are now in third place with 34 points after a 0-0 draw with Heartland who still remain in fifth place with 33 points.

Giwa defeated Kwara United by a lone goal in Jos through Charles Henlong’s second half goal.

The win takes the Jos-based club to fourth position with 34 points, while Kwara United is currently 15th position with 24 points.

Tunde Sanni, Coach of Kwara United, blamed his side’s 0-1 loss to Giwa to lack of consistency.

“We struggled to maintain consistency because we started our winning way late in the season,’’ Sanni said.

Giwa’s captain Charles Henlong scored the only goal of the match in the fourth minute to secure the three points at stake.

The new coach of Kano Pillars FC, Baba Ganaru, said that his return to the club would ginger the players.

He said the 2-1 defeat of Lobi Stars of Makurdi at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, was an indication of the players’ commitment to regain the club lost glory.

“I believe there is hope for the team; we are going to work hard collectively to redeem the club from its current position. I have just returned to the team and I’m ready to reposition the club to its rightful place in the league,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, it was not good news for Shooting Stars’ fans as their club lost by a lone goal to El-Kanemi in Maiduguri.

Shooting Stars are now 12th on the league with 26 points as El Kanemi sit in the 11th position with 27 points.

Abia Warriors were held 1-1 by FC Ifeanyi Ubah. Abia Warriors occupy the 8th positions with 30 points, while Ifeanyi Ubah are 9th with 28 points.

For Akwa United, they had to wait till added time to level score with Bayelsa United to end the match 1-1.

Akwa United are 14th with 25 points, while Bayelsa United are 19th on the log.

Ten men Dolphins of Port Harcourt came from behind beat Nasarawa United 3-1 at home.

Their coach, Stanley Eguma, commended his players for a good performance.

“I commend the spirit of the players; they were never deterred in spite of playing with one man down and conceding an early goal in the first half.

“We actually prepared to win; the character the boys showed today is what is expected of them, and I hope they will maintain the tempo,’’ he said.

But Kabiru Dogo, Coach of Nasarawa United, expressed disappointment with the outcome of the game.

“We started the game very well and dominated it but lost control mid-way. We dominated the game but failed to utilise our chances but Dolphins utilised theirs and they had the day,’’ he said.

Dogo said he was hopeful that his team would improve as the league progressed.

Dolphins currently occupy the 18th position with 20 points on the league table, while Nasarawa are 13th with 26 points.

The Week 21 games are scheduled to take off on Wednesday.
