Enugu State has recorded one new case of COVID-19 infection bringing the number of confirmed cases to four, two have been treated, tested negative, discharged and two are currently positive.
Commissioner for Health in Enugu State, Obi Emmanuel Ikechukwu, who confirmed the report in a statement on Friday, disclosed that “This new case is a 39-year-old who used to live and work in Lagos.
“Recently, this person travelled back to Enugu on the 22nd of April, took ill subsequently and reported to a mission Hospital in the state.
“Staff of the hospital alerted the State COVID 19 response team days later and samples were taken on the 29th of April which have turned out to be positive today 1st May 2020. This new case is not a contact of the 3rd case.
“Thus far, cases reported in Enugu have had positive travel history.”
He advised greater vigilance at the ports of entry into Enugu State, saying, “We are now reporting cases that are not primary contacts of confirmed cases”.
The Ministry made the following recommendations to the people of the State: “Stay at home as much as you can.. Use a clean cloth mask daily if you have to go out. Do not touch the front of the mask while wearing it. Remove your mask only from both ears at the same time. Wash your cloth mask, dry and iron it everyday. Maintain respiratory hygiene when you have to cough or sneeze. Maintain social/physical distancing always. Wash your hands as often as you can with soap and running water. When you can’t wash your hands use an alcohol based hand sanitizer frequently.”

Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has directed a partial and gradual reopening of the Ogbete Main Market on May 4 following relaxation of the COVID-19 partial lockdown.
A statement on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Simon Ortuanya, said the decision was reached after a meeting between the government, traders and security agencies.
Ortuanya said that the parties agreed on a partial and guided reopening of the Ogbete Main Market in Enugu.
“Enugu State Government, security agencies, leaders of traders in Ogbete Main Market have unanimously resolved that there will be a partial and guided reopening of the market.
“The market is open to shop owners only to enable them serve their customers outside the market place and under no circumstance shall customers be allowed to enter the market.
“All shop owners entering the market must wear face masks, maintain proper personal hygiene and social distancing protocol as stipulated by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC),” Ortuanya said.
He said that the these measures would be reviewed on weekly basis, adding that security agencies had been directed to enforce the decisions as any violation would be dealt with.
Ortuanya said that the Akwatta Section of the market remained close.
The traders would operate from 8am to 2pm daily on the days allotted to them.
According to the schedule, pharmacists, provision stores owners and restaurants would operate on Wednesdays and Fridays while wholesale food dealers will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
