Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday, held its primary elections to elect flagbearers for the House of Assembly and the House of Representatives in the 2023 general elections.
The Electoral Committees from the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for the conduct of the elections, expressed satisfaction and adjudged the election as transparent and orderly.
The two electoral committees which gave their separate verdicts when they supervised the conduct of the primaries in the state, on Sunday, commended the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led leadership of the PDP in Enugu State for galvanizing the delegates and party members in displaying utmost commitment, discipline and comportment during the peaceful exercises.
Supervising the House of Representatives Primary Elections in Enugu State, the National Electoral Committee led by Hon. Aminu Koko described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and credible,
On his part, the Chairman of PDP National Electoral Committee, Barr. Uche Igbokwe, lauded the electoral process, which he said, was peaceful. He expressed delight at the presence of the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the exercise.
Igbokwe appreciated Ugwuanyi for his uncommon leadership role in Enugu State in particular and the PDP South East zone in general,saying that the governor is the one that has kept state chapters of the party in the zone going.
Other members of the State House of Assembly Primary Electoral Committee were Hon. Egbuna Nduanya, Hajiya Fatima Usman, Alh. Abubakar Bala Matawale, and Salihu Onimisi ,Secretary .
Members of the Federal Constituency Electoral Committee chaired by Hon. Koko arem were Alhaji Umaru Zakari, Hajiya Asiya Bayero, Innocent inu Ezekiel and Mr. Emmanuel Ekpe (Secretary) .
Former Chief of Staff to the governor, Dr. Festus Uzor, picked the House of Representatives ticket for Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency.
Uzor, also a former Deputy Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, got ninety- nine votes out of one hundred and twenty two votes. Agana Afamefuna and Barr. Ode Adanma came a distant second with 8 votes respectively.
The former State Chairman of the PDP, Engr Vita Abba picked the ticket for Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency. Abba’s victory has denied Dr. Pat Asadu, member representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency , the ticket for a fifth term bid.
The member representing Nkanu East and West Federal Constituency, Pharm Nnoli Nnaji also won his ticket to return to the House.
Two serving local government chairmen,
Vitus Okechi of Igboeze South LGA picked the ticket for Igboeze South Constituency and chairman of Udenu LGA, Hon Solomon Onah, was elected to fly the PDP flag for Udenu Constituency.
