Enugu declares state of emergency on water, sanitation, hygiene, inaugurates 18-man committee

With a view to providing adequate  water supply , improved sanitation and hygiene  in the state,  the Enugu State  government  has declared  state  of emergency  on the water sanitation and  hygiene  sectors. 
The state  also inaugurated  an Inter-ministerial Committees for  Implementation on Water,  Sanitation  and Hygiene.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who  made the declaration while inaugurating an 18-man inter- ministerial committee for the implementation of water sanitation and hygiene WASH action plans at the Government House, noted that from world bank statistics, over 55 million people living in Nigeria live without access to clean water while over 110 million do not have access to a decent toilet and hand washing facility and Nigeria is currently ranked 2nd in the list of country that practice open defecation in the world 

 Represented by the Secretary to the State Government,  Prof Simon Ortuanya, Ugwuanyi  stated that the importance of water sanitation and hygiene cannot be over emphasized.
He said that to arrest the uncomplimentary situation ,  the federal government on November 8, 2018 declared a state of emergency on WASH sector with an action plan to revivtatize of the sector in the country.

The governor stated that the committee is expected to oversee the full and effective implementation of the action plan in the state and ensure that the stated meet the sustainable development Goal SDG.

On behalf of other members,    the Special Adviser to the governor on water resources,  Dubem Onyia  thanked the governor for the rear privilege to serve in the committee and promise to do it’s best and not disappoint the governor.
