Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mr Ahmed Ammani, visited Umuhu in Eha-Amufu community, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of the state on Friday to commiserate over Thursday’s attack in the area.
Assailants attacked the community on Thursday when they killed a yet-to-be-determined number of persons and burnt a truck laden with goods and passengers.
Ammani visited the community in company of commanders of other security agencies in the state.
He assured that security agencies would bring the assailants to book and urged community members to remain law-abiding.
He directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police to investigate the incident and dispelled the rumour that the razed truck was carrying firearms, ammunition and suspected bandits.
Ammani described the rumour as baseless, misleading and an act of disinformation capable of creating unnecessary panic and escalating tension in the area.
“I warn creators and peddlers of such fake news to desist forthwith, as they will be made to face the full wrath of the law if apprehended,’’ he said.
