Dr Ahmed Audi, Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has ordered personnel deployed for the elections to discipline persons who decide to go against the laws.

Audi said this while addressing the corps’ fully armed Crack Squad on Saturday at NSCDC Headquarters, Sauka in Abuja.

He said that the squad was saddled to immediately respond to distress reports on riots or conflicts that could disrupt the voting process.

“We are supposed to protect civilians but anybody who is going to take the laws into his or her hands will be dealt with ruthlessly.

“We are to cage any conflict that will arise as a result of this process and we will not allow anybody, hoodlum or miscreants to harass you,” he said.

He warned that any officer who kills anyone will be court marshalled as there was no excuse for accidental discharge.

“This rifle you are holding is very dangerous and if you are careful it can intoxicate you so you must observe the rules of engagement.

“In our Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and code of conduct there is no accidental discharge so if you are trigger-happy and kill anybody you are on your own.

“Don’t touch the trigger anyhow because there is what is called trigger fornication and how you place your index finger and hold your rifles says how well trained you are,” he said.

The CG advised the personnel to be well mannered, avoid over zealousness, harassment, intimidation or discrimination.
