Mrs Jane Ekweremadu, a sister-in-law to the Deputy Senate President, Chief Ike Ekweremadu, has been kidnapped in Enugu, the police have confirmed.
The spokesman of the police in the state, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, said on Wednesday that Ekweremadu was kidnapped on Tuesday at Independence Layout, Enugu.
Amaraizu added that she had lost her husband two years ago.
“We got the information that the woman was kidnapped on Tuesday night around Agric Bank Bus Stop in Independence Layout.
“But the command has commenced full investigation into the report to release the woman from her captors,” he said.
Amarizu, however, declined further comment on the incident.
Meanwhile, a source close to the Ekweremadu family said on Wednesday that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N200 million.
