An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the detention of a 67-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife over allegations connected to the death of a 25-year-old woman, Kehinde Omize.
The defendants, identified as Lamidi Salau and Lamidi Abigail, were brought before the court on allegations of conspiracy and murder.
Couple Accused of Involvement in Woman’s Death
The prosecution, led by ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the alleged incident occurred on Sept. 9 at the Dallimore area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to the prosecutor, the couple and another suspect who is currently at large were allegedly involved in the circumstances surrounding Omize’s death.
The defendants were reportedly known to the victim’s father and had been involved in efforts to resolve a disagreement between the deceased and her husband before the incident occurred.
Husband Allegedly Attacked Wife During Meeting
The prosecutor alleged that the deceased’s husband arrived unexpectedly during the meeting and allegedly attacked his wife with a machete, resulting in her death.
He told the court that the victim’s family later reported concerns that the defendants were aware of the husband’s presence during the incident.
The prosecution said the alleged offences violated relevant sections of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
Court Orders Detention Pending Legal Advice
The prosecutor requested that the defendants be remanded at a correctional facility pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The defendants’ pleas were not taken because the matter is still at the preliminary stage.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun subsequently ordered that both defendants be remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned until Oct. 9, 2026, for further mention.
