Ekiti AGILE holds Empowerment Boot Camp for students

The Ekiti State Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), last week held a Safe Space Holiday Empowerment Boot Camp for girls at the Transit Home in Ado-Ekiti.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Kofoworola Aderiye, disclosed that the essence of the Three-day boot camp was to train the adolescent girs on how best to handle maturity and other skills.
According to her, “the initiatiive is part of our gesture to ensure that the students build their own confidence and differentiate between being assertive and being aggressive.
“We are teaching them and equipping them with life skills to enable them navigate adulthood, and also to know that there is a difference between being timid and being humble.”
Other dignitaries present included the Project Coordinator of Agile, Mrs. Yewande Adesua, the Commissioner for Information, Rt Hon. Taiwo Olatubosun, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Michael Omolayo.
Mr. Omolayo, in his remarks, welcomed the students and other guests, while thanking the Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his support in making AGILE’s Safe Space initiative a success.
The AGILE PC in her speech stated that AGILE has trained counsellors to mentor young girls through its Safe Space session, which provides a platform for mentors, counselors, and female students to interact and build confidence.
According to Mrs Adesua, this session has yielded positive results, empowering female students to speak up about their problems, face crowds and assert themselves.

In the same vein, the Commissioner for Information emphasised the importance of the boot camp and highlighted the significance of technology in students’ lives, even as he encouraged them to utilize it effectively.
