Ekiti 2014: Setback for Bamidele as Tinubu, Akande back Fayemi

kayode_fayemiThe re-election bid of Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State received a boost on Wednesday.

National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, endorsed his re-election in the 2014 battle for the Ado-Ekiti Government House.

They told his main challenger in the party and a member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, to wait for another time to realise his governorship ambition.

Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central Constituency 1, served Tinubu as commissioner in Lagos State.

While urging the party leadership in Ekiti State and the electorate to allow Fayemi to continue his good work of taking the state to higher heights, they told the state ACN chairman, Chief Jide Awe, to reinstate Bamidele’s father to his position.

Pa Bamidele was removed as ACN Ward Chairman in Iyin-Ekiti a few months ago.

All the ACN National Assembly members, except Bamidele, have endorsed Fayemi’s re-election.

Tinubu further described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as wasteful.

He urged Nigerians to vote out PDP members in 2014 and 2015.

He said: “PDP has not been able to bring any meaningful development to the country 14 years after being in power. I want to tell you that the All Progressives Congress is determined to bring the desired positive change to the country.

“The APC is about change; positive change for this country. The other party (PDP) has been in power in the last 14 years but had made power the cornerstone of its policy. They know nothing about change for the people, change for better.

“Unless Nigerians are satisfied with punishment, unless Nigerians are satisfied with the level of poverty, unless Nigerians are not angry with the level of unemployed youths in this country, then they will not change PDP.

“But we are determined to oust the PDP. They have been in power for so long and they have not been able to use the power to develop humanity and the Nigerian populace. What a waste.”
