Bayelsa: APC, PDP spar over Nov 16 polls

APC vs PDP

Mr Abdul-hakeem Shokunle (PDP Oshodi-Isolo 1), Lagos State House of Assembly, on Monday, said that the opposition party would support the majority party in the Assembly only on good causes.
Shokunle said in Lagos that the eight PDP members on the floor of the House were united and would oppose all wrongs.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) controls the remaining 32 lawmakers.
“Forming a formidable opposition in the Lagos Assembly does not mean that when the majority party is doing well or pursuing a good cause, we should oppose them.
“If they (APC members) are doing the right thing, there is no need for opposition; then, we must support them.
“If they are doing anything otherwise, then we will oppose, say no, and make our stand known,” he said.
According to him, the number of PDP lawmakers are few in the assembly, but that would not deter them from making their stand known.
“If our voices cannot stop them, then we will make people in the state know.
“We will only oppose what we think is not right.
“APC has 32 members and we are only eight. If the 32 are pursuing a good cause, the eight will support them.
“But if they are doing the wrong thing, don’t be surprised that out of the 32 APC, some of them may join us if what we are saying is the truth,” he said.
The lawmaker said that what was paramount in their minds was how to move the state forward.
He ruled out the possibility of PDP members on the floor of the Assembly defecting to the ruling party.
The newly inaugurated 40-member 8th Assembly comprises 32 APC members and eight PDP members, a deviation from the 7th Assembly in which all members were from the APC.
