The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Dr. Sa’ad Muhammadu Abubakar III has called for unity amongst the Muslim Umah, saying that it will forester understanding and brotherliness in the country.

This was contained in his message he delivered on Thursday during the Eid-il-Firi sallah durba held in his palace’s pavilion in Sokoto.

The Sultan also called for peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians in the country, as without peace, there can be no meaningful development in any nation.

He urged governments at the three tiers to ensure that they provide adequate security for the citizenry while all and sundry have to always scout for peace rather than picking weapons as means of presenting their grievances.

Our correspondent in Sokoto reports that this year’s 2013 Eid-el-fitir was filled with fun fairs as all sectors of the Muslim culture and traditions were displayed during the durba held at the sultan’s palace.

Among the prominent personalities who graced the ceremony were the Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Dr. Aliyu Magatakarda Wammakko; his deputy, Alhaji Mukhtari Shehu Shagari; the SSG, Alhaji Isa Gada and most of the commissioners of the state.
