The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged aggrieved party members, and Nigerians generally, to take advantage of this year’s Eid-el Kabir festival to ensure total reconciliation.
This appeal is contained in a goodwill message issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Olisa Metuh, to the nation in Abuja on Monday.
Metuh also urged Nigerians to see the festival as an opportunity to rededicate to the ideals of sacrifice, patriotism and total submission to the will of the Almighty.
The PDP spokesman further charged Nigerians to be guided always by the lessons of the festival.
According to him, the lessons of this great celebration are of critical importance to our dear country at this moment in our political evolution.
He said Nigeria would be a greater country if all citizens imbibed the culture of sacrifice, selfless service, support to constituted authority and the current transformational efforts of the Federal Government.
Metuh decried the activities of some politicians, whom he said, had continued to fan the embers of division, hatred and bitterness.
This, he said, was unfortunate at a time all leaders should be rallying points for unity and progress.
The PDP publicity secretary added that those who wish for a divided Nigeria on narrow primordial lines were living in the past and were in for a huge disappointment.
He said the PDP was determined more than ever to unite Nigerians in line with the visions of its founding fathers.
Metuh further tasked Nigerians to remain their brother`s keepers and to remember the less privileged as they celebrate the feast of sacrifice.
He congratulated the entire Muslim ummah, and urged the clergy to pray for the peace and unity of the country.
