Ehiogu singles out Peterborough

Tottenham youth coach Ugo Ehiogu has heaped praise on ‘fantastic’ Cy Goddard after the north London side’s 3-2 friendly defeat to Peterborough, according to the club’s official website.

Indeed, Ehiogu chose to praise the 18-year-old for dealing with an increased level of physicality from the opposition – and persisting in the face of fatigue.

Ehiogu told Tottenham’s official site: “I thought Cy Goddard was fantastic. He had to deal with the physicality (up against Jack Collison and Michael Bostwick in midfield) but continued to try to do positive things. He tired towards the end but tried to stay in it. That was a big step up for him.”

The coach also praised Will Miller and Kaziah Sterling, who he feels will learn a lot from playing a Football League side.

He added: “Will Miller looked intelligent with his midfield play and young Kaziah Sterling, just 16, was up against a Portugal youth international and Congo international in their central defence. He will learn a lot from that and physically I think it surprised him, but it will stand him in good stead.”

Tottenham’s youth academy duly gets the credit it deserves and Mauricio Pochettino’s emphasis on youth at first-team level also creates new opportunities for the north London club’s younger players.
