Sen. Neda Imasuen (LP- Edo) said the Labour Party and its candidates were sure of victory at the Sept. 2 Local Government Elections in Edo.
Imasuen, who expressed the optimism during an interview with newsmen on Friday in Benin, however, urged the state government to provide a level-playing field for all the participating political parties.
” I want to commend the Edo State Government for its resolution to conduct the local government elections after so many postponements.
“We in Labour Party, especially our candidates, are ready and are prepared to go into the contest with confidence to clinch the available positions.
“But my only appeal is for the state government to provide a level playing field for all parties involved and for the electorate to make their informed choices of their preferred candidates.
” Let the State Independent Electoral Commission carry out its mandate well as an unbiased umpire so that the outcome of the process will be credible and acceptable by Edo people, ” he said.
Imasuen confirmed that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was being expected in the state on Monday.
He said: “He will be in Benin on a thank- you visit and would also boost our chairmanship and counsellorship candidates’ campaign during the visit.”
On the dilapidated Federal Government’s roads in Edo, he said: “I joined hands with my colleagues in the national assembly to present a common motion on the state of deplorable federal roads across the state.
“That action prompted the relevant authority to direct FERMA to move to site in Edo. I have just arrived in Benin and yet to go round to confirm such deployment.
“We will continue to stay on the case and ensure government gives it a wholistic approach, especially during the next budget defense because it is a common complaint among the people across the states of the federation,” he said.
